The Basketball Boys

We got to cheer on both Scott and Tyler as they played Verona Rec basketball this winter.


Here's Scott right before he made a basket.  He was quite a hustler.




Tyler was on the 5th/6th grade team.  They were a lot more serious than last year and he played hard and learned a lot.  They played for the championships and he made his first (and second) baskets of the season!  He'd tried many times in previous games, but no luck.  You should have seen all 3 of his coaches, Chris and I leap to our feet to cheer for his personal accomplishment!  The look on Ty's face, though, was the best.  His team took 2nd place in the Verona/Fitchburg Rec league.

Zach was a faithful fan (both because he had no choice being there and because he really looked forward to each game).  He requested a ball upon entering the gym each time (even though he'd brought his own -- we coined a new saying: "the basketball is always oranger in the gym")  He dribbled on the sidelines and couldn't wait for halftime when he could go on the floor, sometimes being lifted up by Dad to try a shot or two.  He had the moves.  I could almost hear "getcha head in the game" coming from his little head as he played.  Many spectators would comment on how impressed there were by our little Troy Bolton.

Shepherds, Santa and an Angel

The kids were asked to dress up as nativity characters for the Primary to sing a few songs during the ward Christmas party. 











Zach eagerly awaited his visit with Santa.  He told him he wanted a basketball and a Spiderman. (Santa came through for him quite well....)


























Our advent activity for the day was to sleep around the Christmas tree.  Everyone set up "beds" (mom and dad got the couches of course...) We watched "'Twas The Night Before Christmas", an animated show I remembered as a child.  I love our home decorated for Christmas!

Downtown Trolley Ride

Our advent calendar activity for December 19 was to ride the Downtown Holiday Trolley.  While we waited for the trolley, we went inside the Capital building to see the big Christmas tree.  As we approached the tree, the attendant asked the kids if they would like to hang a ornament on the state tree!  Pretty cool.











Here's the trolley -- nice and warm inside.  It drove us down State Street (similar to Pearl Street in Boulder)  We enjoyed the free candy canes and ride.  We got off to eat at Taco Bell (a family fav and very affordable!).

After dinner we walked up State Street in the snow -- there is something I just love about being downtown during Christmas time.  We stopped to warm up in the Overture Center.  Downstairs there is a stage that is used for kids shows and events that we've attended.  The kids put on a little "show" for us.

Playing catch up

I've had several drafts in the works over that last couple of months, so I'm trying to finish them and post them.  Along with those, we've had quite a few things worthy of a post (namely little Brynn) that I'm catching up on.  So you'll see our life in rewind for a bit until I catch up to real time.... ; )
